If you do not have a lot of time in South Africa and you want the opportunity to experience its magnificent wildlife, Pilanesberg National Park is for you. Located only two and a half hours from Johannesburg, the Park is situated in and around the crater of an ancient volcano. This fourth-largest Park in South Africa is located in an ecological transition zone between the relatively wet Lowveld and the relatively dry savannah of the Kalahari. This ecosystem variety means that the Park offers many niches for many creatures. In fact, not only is it home to the Big Five, but many animals and over 300 bird species call the Park home, including rarer animals such as the endangered Wild-dog and sable antelope.
