Johannesburg Tour (HDTM02)

Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa by population and it is the provincial capital of Gauteng province, the centre of South Africa’s commerce and industry. Founded in the late 1800’s, Johannesburg owes its existence to the rich Witwatersrand gold reef that was discovered when George Harrison and George Walker stumbled onto the richest gold fields in the world. By 1896 Johannesburg had become a city of over 100,000 inhabitants and is now one of the 50 largest urban areas in the world. On our tour you will experience some of this great city’s history. See the historical Commissioner Street, the original commercial hub of Johannesburg and also home to its first Chinatown. We will have a photo stop at the Old Post Office and the original City Hall completed in 1914 which now houses the Gauteng provincial government. Visit the Standard Bank Museum, one of the country’s largest financial institutions and finally take in all of "Jozzi" by a breath-taking 360 degree view from the "Top of Africa". See today's Johannesburg with all the hustle & bustle of a modern city infused with an African flavour.
